Use können to say what you can do, ask about abilities, and keep a second verb at the end.

I can, you can
Können means can or be able to. The singular forms are ich kann, du kannst and er/sie kann. Put the activity in the infinitive at the end: Ich kann schwimmen.
Ich kann schwimmen.
I can swim.
Du kannst singen.
You can sing.
Mara kann tanzen.
Mara can dance.
Ben kann gut kochen.
Ben can cook well.
Schwimmen means to swim, singen to sing and tanzen to dance. Können changes with the person; the activity word keeps its basic form.

Skills we share
The plural forms are wir können, ihr könnt and sie können. Formal Sie also takes können. Describe languages with sprechen and instruments with spielen.
Wir können Deutsch sprechen.
We can speak German.
Ihr könnt Gitarre spielen.
You can play the guitar.
Die Freunde können Klavier spielen.
The friends can play the piano.
Sie können gut Englisch sprechen.
You can speak English well.
Ich kann Deutsch sprechen means I can speak German. Klavier spielen means to play the piano and Gitarre spielen means to play the guitar.

Ask and answer
Start a yes/no question with the modal: Kannst du schwimmen? Add nicht before the final infinitive to say that someone cannot do the activity. Noch nicht means not yet.
Kannst du Fahrrad fahren?
Can you ride a bicycle?
Könnt ihr schwimmen?
Can you swim?
Ich kann noch nicht tanzen.
I cannot dance yet.
Ben kann nicht singen.
Ben cannot sing.
Answer with a complete sentence to practise the pattern: Ja, ich kann schwimmen. Nein, ich kann noch nicht schwimmen. Noch nicht leaves room for learning later.
