01
Could you check this?
In this fictional complaint, a customer has received a damaged lamp. Könnten Sie makes the request polite without hiding what help is needed. Follow it with an infinitive at the end.
Könnten Sie meine Bestellung prüfen?
Could you check my order?
Könnten Sie mir bitte helfen?
Could you please help me?
Könnte ich mit dem Kundenservice sprechen?
Could I speak to customer service?
Könntest du mir die Bestellnummer schicken?
Could you send me the order number?
Die Reklamation is a complaint about a product or service. Beschädigt means damaged. A clear request names the order or problem and the action you want.
02
Would you send a replacement?
Würden Sie plus an infinitive is another polite request. Würde gern expresses what the speaker would like to do. Keep separable verbs together in the infinitive.
Würden Sie einen Ersatz schicken?
Would you send a replacement?
Ich würde die Lampe gern zurückschicken.
I would like to send the lamp back.
Würden Sie mich morgen zurückrufen?
Would you call me back tomorrow?
Wir würden gern eine Lösung finden.
We would like to find a solution.
Der Ersatz is a replacement and die Rücksendung a return shipment. Bitte can appear within the request. The conditional form softens the wording; it does not change the requested action.
03
State the desired outcome
Hätte gern is useful when asking for a thing: Ich hätte gern eine Rückerstattung. Wäre es möglich ...? can introduce a more tentative question about a solution.
Ich hätte gern eine Rückerstattung.
I would like a refund.
Hätten Sie einen Vorschlag?
Would you have a suggestion?
Wäre es möglich, die Lampe umzutauschen?
Would it be possible to exchange the lamp?
Das wäre eine gute Lösung.
That would be a good solution.
Die Rückerstattung means refund. These examples practise customer-service language rather than establish a right to a particular remedy. A polite request can still be specific.
