Name the problem and the recipient
In this fictional workplace scenario, Lea reports repeated insults. Sich beschweren bei names the person or office receiving a complaint; sich beschweren über names its subject. Leiden unter describes what causes suffering.
Lea beschwert sich bei der Teamleitung über die Beleidigungen.
Lea complains to the team leader about the insults.
Sie leidet unter den ständigen Sticheleien.
She suffers from the constant snide remarks.
Lea wehrt sich gegen die falschen Vorwürfe.
Lea defends herself against the false accusations.

She asks the staff representatives for support.

Respond without changing the subject
The staff representative listens and asks for a response. Auf etwas eingehen means to address something. Auf etwas bestehen means to insist on it. The same preposition does not guarantee the same case.
Die Teamleitung geht auf den Vorwurf ein.
The team leader addresses the accusation.
Lea besteht auf einer schriftlichen Antwort.
Lea insists on a written answer.
Die Teamleitung reagiert auf die Beschwerde.
The team leader responds to the complaint.
Die Personalvertretung vermittelt zwischen den Beteiligten.
The staff representatives mediate between those involved.
Eingehen auf and reagieren auf take the accusative. Bestehen auf takes the dative here. Vermitteln zwischen takes the dative when naming the parties.

Separate a person from a matter
Use a preposition plus a personal pronoun for people. A da-compound can refer back to a matter or statement. Lea's final sentences distinguish the person she contacts from the issue she insists on.
Lea beschwert sich bei der Leiterin.
Lea complains to the female manager.
Auf eine schriftliche Antwort besteht Lea. Sie besteht darauf.
Lea insists on a written answer. She insists on it.
Lea wehrt sich gegen den Vorwurf.
Lea defends herself against the accusation.
Lea bittet um ein vertrauliches Gespräch.
Lea asks for a confidential conversation.
Darauf points back to a matter, such as a written response. Bei ihr refers to a woman. Keep the verb's preposition when replacing a noun phrase.
