Judge a film with evaluative adjectives
A film review needs precise adjectives that judge, not just describe. Before a noun they take the usual endings: ein packender Thriller, mit einem überzeugenden Ende. After sein or wirken they have no ending: Die Handlung ist vorhersehbar.
Der Film ist ein packender Thriller mit einem überzeugenden Ende.
The film is a gripping thriller with a convincing ending.
Die Handlung ist leider ziemlich vorhersehbar.
Unfortunately the plot is rather predictable.
Die Hauptdarstellerin liefert eine überzeugende Leistung.
The lead actress gives a convincing performance.
Der zweite Teil wirkt langatmig und enttäuschend.
The second part comes across as long-winded and disappointing.
Packend means gripping, überzeugend convincing, vorhersehbar predictable, langatmig long-winded and enttäuschend disappointing. Die Hauptdarstellerin is the lead actress and die Handlung the plot. The film is fictional.

Strengthen or soften with intensifiers
Intensifiers stand directly before the adjective and adjust its strength. Kaum weakens it almost completely, etwas and ziemlich soften it, äußerst makes it very strong. Zu means too: more than is good.

Der Anfang ist etwas langsam, aber dann wird es spannend.
The beginning is somewhat slow, but then it gets exciting.
Die Fortsetzung ist kaum spannender als der erste Teil.
The sequel is hardly more exciting than the first part.
Zu lang is a criticism, sehr lang is only a description. Kaum also works with a comparative: kaum spannender, hardly more exciting. Die Fortsetzung means the sequel and der Dialog dialogue.

Match the register
A newspaper review prefers formal intensifiers such as überaus, höchst and rundum. In conversation people say echt, total or mega. Do not mix the two registers in a written review.
Die Regisseurin hat einen überaus gelungenen Debütfilm gedreht.
The director has made an exceptionally successful debut film.
Der Film war echt super, den musst du unbedingt sehen!
The film was really great, you absolutely have to see it!
Die Komödie ist höchst unterhaltsam, wenn auch etwas oberflächlich.
The comedy is highly entertaining, if somewhat superficial.
Die Kritiker waren sich einig: ein rundum gelungener Film.
The critics agreed: an all-round successful film.
Gelungen means successful or well made, unterhaltsam entertaining and oberflächlich superficial. Genres include die Komödie comedy, das Drama drama, der Thriller thriller and der Dokumentarfilm documentary. An intensifier does not change the adjective ending: einen überaus gelungenen Film.
