01
Look back with evidence
In her final course reflection, Nora uses the past perfect passive to describe preparation completed before a past event. Konjunktiv I attributes feedback to her teacher, while an extended participle attribute identifies the discussions that changed her thinking. The phrase lässt sich sagen offers a measured way to sum up. These are familiar B2 structures serving different jobs within one short text.
Bevor ich meinen ersten Vortrag hielt, waren meine Notizen mehrfach überarbeitet worden.
Before I gave my first presentation, my notes had been revised several times.
Meine Kursleiterin sagt, meine Ausdrucksweise sei deutlich sicherer geworden.
My teacher says that my way of expressing myself has become much more confident.
Die im Kurs geführten Diskussionen haben meinen Blick auf andere Standpunkte verändert.
The discussions held during the course have changed how I see other points of view.
Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass ich heute genauer zwischen einer Behauptung und einem Beleg unterscheide.
In summary, it can be said that I now distinguish more precisely between a claim and supporting evidence.
The past perfect passive uses a past-tense form of sein plus the participle and worden, not geworden; plural Notizen takes waren. A Behauptung is a claim, while a Beleg is evidence supporting it; reporting praise with sei does not turn it into independent proof.
02
Make room for a counterargument
A clear position can include reservations and other people's experiences. Obgleich introduces a concession with the verb at the end; the main clause then starts with its finite verb. Nominalised verbs make an argument more compact, and a genitive relative pronoun connects experiences to the people who had them. Ohne dass lets Nora distinguish changing her opinion from abandoning her values.
Obgleich mir noch Wörter fehlen, kann ich einen Standpunkt begründen und auf Einwände eingehen.
Although I still lack some words, I can justify a position and respond to objections.
Durch das Abwägen verschiedener Argumente vermeide ich vorschnelle Urteile.
By weighing up different arguments, I avoid hasty judgements.
Ich möchte auch Menschen zuhören, deren Erfahrungen meinen eigenen widersprechen.
I also want to listen to people whose experiences contradict my own.
Ich kann meine Meinung ändern, ohne dass ich deshalb auf eigene Werte verzichte.
I can change my opinion without abandoning my own values as a result.
Obgleich suits careful written argument; obwohl is more neutral in everyday speech. Das Abwägen means weighing up, der Einwand an objection, and deren refers back to plural Menschen while the verb widersprechen takes the dative meinen eigenen.
03
Carry your German beyond the course
At the end of B2, Nora looks back at a missed opportunity and sets herself a next step. A condition without wenn starts with Hätte, and the past modal construction ends with two infinitives, vermeiden können. Future II presents reading a novel as completed by a future deadline. Vorausgesetzt names the condition for continuing, while a relative clause explains what she wants her conversations to be like.
Hätte ich früher nachgefragt, hätte ich manches Missverständnis vermeiden können.
Had I asked for clarification earlier, I could have avoided some misunderstandings.
Bis zum nächsten Sommer werde ich meinen ersten Roman auf Deutsch gelesen haben.
By next summer, I will have read my first novel in German.
Vorausgesetzt, dass ich regelmäßig übe, werde ich auch nach diesem Kurs weiterlernen.
Provided that I practise regularly, I will keep learning after this course too.
Mein Ziel ist, Gespräche zu führen, in denen ich meine Sicht erkläre und anderen aufmerksam zuhöre.
My aim is to have conversations in which I explain my perspective and listen attentively to others.
Use hätte plus two infinitives for a past possibility with können, but werde plus a participle and haben for the future completion of lesen. In in denen, denen is dative plural because the reference is to conversations within which something happens.
