In a fictional start-up, founders Elif and Tom plan a reusable lunch box. German often pairs an everyday verb with a specific noun: eine Entscheidung treffen means to make a decision. Learn the whole expression.

The noun usually carries the main meaning, while the verb supplies the tense. Eine Entscheidung treffen, Verantwortung übernehmen and einen Antrag stellen are useful as complete phrases.

Discuss conditions before committing
The founders talk to an investor and assess the risks. Gespräche führen means to hold talks. Etwas in Betracht ziehen means to consider it. These expressions are useful even before a final decision.
Die Gründer führen Gespräche mit einer Investorin.
The founders hold talks with a female investor.
Sie ziehen eine kleinere Produktion in Betracht.
They consider smaller-scale production.
Die Investorin stellt Kapital zur Verfügung.

Keep the fixed parts together: zur Verfügung stellen and in Betracht ziehen include a preposition. An offer can be considered without being accepted.

Use the phrase in a project update
A collocation can describe progress as well as a decision. Maßnahmen ergreifen means to take measures; eine Vereinbarung treffen means to reach an agreement. Choose the conventional verb rather than translating English 'make' or 'take' word for word.
Das Team ergreift Maßnahmen zur Senkung der Ausgaben.
The team takes measures to reduce expenditure.
Elif und Tom treffen eine Vereinbarung über die Aufgabenverteilung.
Elif and Tom reach an agreement on dividing the tasks.
Die Investorin stellt ihre Erfahrung zur Verfügung.
The investor makes her experience available.
