So the question we need to ask ourselves for this comparison is, what kind of search engine do we even want?

Und da ich euch gerne als allererstes mal, erstmal wohlgemerkt, Google-Alternativen vorstellen möchte,

So, be it for errors in code, for information, for news.

Bevor wir uns wirklich Google-Alternativen ansehen, stellen wir uns aber hier noch die Frage,
Before we actually look at Google alternatives, we first ask ourselves the question here,

was sind eigentlich unsere Kriterien für eine wirklich geile Suchmaschine?
what are actually our criteria for a really great search engine?

Klar, das erste ist, ich will relevante Ergebnisse haben.

Das ist genau die Definition von einer Suchmaschine.
That's exactly the definition of a search engine.

Das bieten aber mehr als 50 Suchmaschinen und das sollte uns nicht reichen.
But more than 50 search engines offer that, and that shouldn't be enough for us.

Es gibt aber natürlich auch einfach Suchmaschinen, die für uns überhaupt nicht relevant sind.
However, there are also search engines that are completely irrelevant to us.

Baidu und Yandex zum Beispiel haben in ihren Heimatländern China bzw. Yandex in Russland mehr als 50% Marktanteil und damit auch zusammen fast 2% Marktanteil im gesamten Markt.
Baidu and Yandex, for example, have more than 50% market share in their home countries, China and Russia respectively, and thus almost 2% market share together in the overall market.

Das hört sich wenig an, aber damit liegt Baidu auf Platz 4 und Yandex auf Platz 5, der meistgesuchten Suchmaschinen weltweit.
That sounds small, but it puts Baidu in 4th place and Yandex in 5th place among the most searched search engines worldwide.

Allerdings sind die beide für uns nicht so wirklich relevant, weil sie kaum Ergebnisse für den deutschen oder englischen Markt liefern.
However, both are not really relevant to us because they deliver hardly any results for the German or English market.

Zudem ist spannend, wie viele Websites eigentlich wirklich indexiert wurden,

Hier kann kaum jemand mit dem Platzhirsch Google mithalten,

da sind es nämlich über 40 Milliarden Websites.

Aber dazu kommen wir nachher noch.

Es gibt nämlich auch Parasitensuchmaschinen, wie ich sie manchmal liebevoll nenne,

ist wirklich nicht abwertend gemeint, die sind sehr gut.

Die schnappen sich aber einfach die Ergebnisse von Google oder von Bing
But they simply grab the results from Google or Bing

und geben die bei sich auf ihrer eigenen Website aus.
and display them on their own website.

Daf bezahlen dann diese Parasiten ein paar Geb und wir kriegen eine andere Suchmaschine Ist ziemlich cool eigentlich Ein weiterer relevanter Faktor ist aber auch die Anonymit
Then these parasites pay a few bucks and we get a different search engine. It's pretty cool, actually. Another relevant factor, however, is also anonymity.

What the search engines can offer, but often simply don't want to.

Lasst uns kurz darüber reden.
Let's talk about it briefly.

Google, Bing und Yahoo speichern sich jede einzelne Suchanfrage von dir ab.
Google, Bing, and Yahoo save every single search query you make.

Egal ob du nach Informatiker werden, Jobs-Informatiker, deinem Lieblings-Pornostar oder den Bauchschmerzen suchst, die du seit ein paar Tagen hast.
It doesn't matter if you're searching to become a computer scientist, for computer science jobs, your favorite porn star, or the stomach pains you've had for a few days.

Jede einzelne Anfrage wird gespeichert, inklusive deines Accounts oder aber deiner IP-Adresse, falls du nicht angemeldet bist.
Every single query is saved, including your account or your IP address if you're not logged in.

Diese Daten werden dann ungehindert an Dritte verkauft, damit ihr diese Juxy-Werbung bekommt, die ihr dann immer seht.
This data is then sold to third parties unhindered, so you get that annoying advertising you always see.

Nicht unbedingt nur auf Google oder auch auf Seiten wie diese hier.
Not necessarily just on Google, but also on sites like this one.

Warum ist das ein Problem? AOL hatte auch mal eine Suchmaschine.
Why is this a problem? AOL also had a search engine once.

Sie haben für eine Studie 20 Millionen Suchanfragen von ca. 650.000 Nutzern an Forschern weitergegeben.
For a study, they passed on 20 million search queries from about 650,000 users to researchers.

Die Daten waren komplett pseudonymisiert.
The data was completely anonymized.
[05:58]
In den meisten Fällen konnte man anhand der Ortsdaten der Suchanfragen und Personen in ihrer Nähe wieder rausfinden, wer sie wirklich waren.
In most cases, it was possible to find out who they really were based on the location data of the search queries and people near them.

All diese Daten sammelt auch Google und die haben noch mehr Daten.

Das heißt, es geht noch einfacher.

Die haben Werbung auf Social Media mit gezielter Werbung geschalten, die genau die richtige Zielgruppe getroffen hat.

Müttern kann man wunderbar erzählen, dass ihre Kinder in Gefahr sind, sollte man sich für X entscheiden.
Mothers can be wonderfully told that their children are in danger if they choose X.

Hartz-IV-Empfängern kann man wunderbar erzählen, dass man ihnen endlich daraus hilft
Welfare recipients can be wonderfully told that you are finally helping them out of it

und den Besserverdienern kann man sagen, dass man ein Land wieder zu einer riesigen Wirtschaftsnation machen kann.
and the high earners can be told that you can turn the country back into a huge economic power.

Man könnte sogar hergehen und sagen, man fördert Yoga-Studios in genau einer Region,
One could even go so far as to say that one promotes yoga studios in a specific region,

weil man ja auch den Standort erhält und die Vorliebe Yoga.
because one also considers the location and the preference for yoga.

All das ist möglich und damit lassen sich gezielt Menschen manipulieren.
All of this is possible and it allows people to be targeted and manipulated.

Und manche sagen, dass sie nicht manipuliert werden, aber glaubt mir, genau das passiert mit den Massen.
And some say they are not being manipulated, but believe me, that's exactly what happens to the masses.

Vielleicht der Einzelnen nicht, aber die Massen, die können durchaus manipuliert werden.

Und genau das ist bei diesen beiden Wahlen auch damals passiert.

Bei dem ganzen Schmutz im Wahlkampf in Deutschland wundert es mich fast,

dass es bei uns aktuell nicht so aussieht, als wäre das der Fall.

Aber auch Firmen können und tun das mit euch.

Und natürlich hilft dir eine gewisse Bewusstheit.
And of course, a certain level of awareness helps.

Aber grundsätzlich möchte man doch auch kein offen lesbares Buch für jeden sein,

der den Geldbeutel weit genug öffnet, oder?

Und auch hier wieder, für Hacker, seien es auch staatliche Hacker, die ja momentan sehr aktiv sind, wie ihr wisst, sind Daten immer wahnsinnig geil.

Denn hat man Daten, kann man vieles herausfinden.
Because if you have data, you can find out a lot.

Was sind also eure Möglichkeiten?
So what are your options?

Eine davon ist ganz einfach die Nutzung von Anonymisierungsdiensten, wie dem Tor-Netzwerk, anonymen Browsern etc.
One of them is simply using anonymization services, like the Tor network, anonymous browsers, etc.

Aber am einfachsten wäre doch einfach der Wechsel der Suchmaschine.
But the easiest would be to simply switch search engines.
[08:04]
Und vor allem mit den Twists tut man da gleich noch was Gutes.
And especially with Twists, you're doing something good at the same time.

Verteilt man seine Daten nämlich auf mehrere Orte, wird es immer schwerer, da wirklich eine Person rauszufinden.
If you distribute your data across multiple locations, it becomes increasingly difficult to actually identify a person.
[08:12]
Und wenn es gar nicht irgendwie gespeichert wird, dann noch 50 Mal mehr.
And if it's not stored anywhere at all, then 50 times more so.
[08:16]
Und es gibt tatsächlich auch solche Suchmaschinen. Und die schauen wir uns jetzt an.
And such search engines actually exist. And we'll take a look at them now.

Sehen wir uns also einige Alternativen zu Google an, die nicht sofort dazu führen, dass wir unsere schöne Tastatur am liebsten direkt aus dem Fenster fliegen sehen wollen.
So let's look at some alternatives to Google that don't immediately make us want to throw our nice keyboard out the window.

So let's start with DuckDuckGo. The first on our alternative list.

DuckDuckGo oder DDG ist mit 0,6% Marktanteil tatsächlich die am sechsten meisten genutzte Suchmaschine.
DuckDuckGo, or DDG, is actually the sixth most used search engine with a 0.6% market share.

DDG wirbt mit Privatsphäre und damit einhergehend mit nicht persönlichen Ergebnissen.
DDG advertises privacy and, consequently, non-personalized results.

Dadurch soll die Filterbubble umgangen werden. Dazu aber wann anders mehr in einem anderen Video.

I think many of you have used this search engine before or at least heard of it. It's the default search engine in the Tor Browser and even offers its own Onion address. That means searching .onion using Tor and with anonymity. I've covered the technical details in another video.
